Dom J. Christofer, 90, of 1045 Rose Ave., New Castle, died Sunday afternoon, March 25, 2007 at Jameson Memorial Hospital in New Castle, Pennsylvania. He was born February 18, 1917 in New Castle, Pennsylvania a son of the late John and Carlotta (Sylvester) Christofer. He was married to Angeline L. (Colella) Christofer, who died in April of 2002. Mr. Christofer worked for the Duquesne Brewing Co. as a sales representative for 14 years. He was then owner of Christofer Beer Distributors for a number of years in New Castle and Beaver Falls. He was then co-owner of Reynolds & Summers Clothing Store in Downtown New Castle. Mr. Christofer was an Army veteran of World War II serving in the South Pacific. He was a member of St. Joseph Church, the American Legion and was past-president and a life member of the Eagles Club.
He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Benjamin M. (Deeanna) Jacobs of New Castle, PA, two sons, John Christofer of Pittsburgh, PA, and Former Mayor of the City of New Castle, Richard Christofer, one sister, Mrs. Walter (Jane) Morgan of New Castle, PA, four granddaughters and two great grandchildren.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Frank Christofer, and his sister Nellie Glassi.
Visitation will be held at the William F. & Roger M. DeCarbo Funeral Home on Monday, March 26, 2007 from 7 to 9 PM and on Tuesday, March 27, 2007 from 2 to 4 PM and 7 to 9 PM.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, March 28, 2007 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Joseph the Worker Church. Father James Downs of Christ the King Parish will be officiating. A funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 10:30 am. Burial will be in the St. Joseph Cemetery. The New Castle Area Honor Guard will perform Military Funeral Rites at the cemetery.
