Joseph J. Cook, Sr., 79, of 301 Fern St., New Castle, died Wednesday evening, March 28, 2007 at his home in New Castle, Pennsylvania. He was born January 8, 1928 in New Castle, Pennsylvania a son of Jim and Lucille (Stone) Cook. His parents precede him in death. He married Dolores A. (Palladino) Cook on November 25, 1948, she survives in New Castle. Mr. Cook was a long time employee of the City of New Castle and the New Castle School District. Over his 33 year career of public service, he was Superintendent of Buildings and Grounds for the New Castle School District, Director of Public Works for the City of New Castle and finally retired from the City of New Castle Engineering Department. He was a member of the St. Vitus Church and the Knights of Columbus and was an avid golfer and sports fan. Mr. Cook loved spending time with family and friends and was devoted to his grandchildren and great grandson.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by, two daughters, Mrs. Wayne (Debbie L.) Cross and Mrs. John (Cindy A.) Palko, both of New Castle, three sons, Joseph J. Cook, Jr., David W. Cook and wife Shana, and Randy A. Cook, all of New Castle, PA, one brother, Raymond Cook of New Castle, PA, ten grandchildren, Kali & Christopher Cook, Michael DiMuccio, Cybill Quahliero, Alan Cook, Tony, Mandy & Tyler Masone and Randy & Michael Cook and one great grandson, Johnanthony Palko Quahliero.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Domenick, Carmen 'Jard', Harry, Anthony 'Tony' and Carl Cook and three sisters, Mary Masterson, Dora Malizia and Francis Lambo.
Visitation will be held at the William F. & Roger M. DeCarbo Funeral Home on Friday, March 30, 2007 from 5 to 8 pm.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, March 31, 2007 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Vitus Church. Father John Petrarulo of St. Vitus Church will be officiating. A funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 9:30 am. Burial will be in the Parkside Cemetery.
