Catherine V. Gaines, 66, of New Castle died the afternoon of May 5, 2007, in Jameson Memorial Hospital. Born December 30, 1940, in New Castle, she was a daughter of the late Alton Bennet. She retired from the Pennsylvania Department of Welfare in Lawrence County after 14 years as a social worker. She was a member of the Second Baptist Church and Eastern Star.
Survivors include a daughter, Theresa Lynn Gaines of Tallahassee, FL, two sons, Derennen Dewayne Gaines and Frank Gaines, Jr., both of New Castle, a brother, John Johnston of New Castle, two sisters, Anita Nixon of New Castle and Nelseine Hall of Camden, NJ, three grandchildren, Christina Nicole Gaines of Pittsburgh, Frank Gaines III of New Castle and Chelcia Jouvanne Gaines of Florida, and a great-grandchild, Brittne-Lwurynne Jeonarrae Gaines of Florida.
Visitation is 3 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm Thursday at the Second Baptist Church. A service will be conducted at noon Friday at the Church. The Rev. Norman Hunt will officiate.
