Anthony J. Macri, 90, of Hazen Street, died Tuesday, May 3, 2011 at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh. He was born May 21, 1920 in New Castle, a son of the late Michael and Mary (DeFonso) Macri. He was married to the late Ann F. (Fazzone) Macri who died February 20, 1995. Mr. Macri was a machinist at Johnson Bronze retiring after 40 years. He was an Army veteran of World War II serving in Europe. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge and the Battle of the Rhineland, and he was a Staff Sgt. and was a drill instructor for a number of years at Ft. Eustis, VA. Mr. Macri was past president of UAW Local Union #69 and enjoyed fishing, camping, and the outdoors, and listening to music.
He is survived by twin sons, Michael A. Macri of Indianapolis, IN, and Wayne A. Macri of New Castle, and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Charles, James, and Michael Macri, and one sister, Rose Ross.
Visitation will be held at the William F. & Roger M. DeCarbo Funeral Home, 926 Cunningham Avenue on Friday, May 6, 2011 from 5 P.M. to 8 P.M.
Blessing services will be held Saturday, May 7, 2011 at 10:00 A.M. at the William F. DeCarbo Memorial Chapel. Father Steve Palsa of St. Vincent de Paul Parish will be officiating. Burial will be in the Castle View Memorial Gardens. The New Castle Area Honor Guard will perform Military Funeral Rites at the cemetery.
