Lawrence J. Denny

Lawrence J. Denny, 92, of Martha Street, Shenango Twp., died Wednesday, October 5, 2011 at VNA Inpatient Hospice in Butler, PA.

He was born of September 28, 1919 in New Castle, PA a son of the late Lawrence M. and Mary E. (Neiheisel) Denny. He was the first baby born at New Castle Hospital. He married Mary M. (Darwin) Denny on February 21, 1946, she survives in New Castle. Mr. Denny was a machinist and composite mechanic for B&O and B&O C&O railroads retiring after 42 years. He was a Sgt. in the Army serving in World War II with Co. A of the 43rd Tank Battalion of the 12th Armored Division. He received numerous medals for his European service including the Purple Heart. He was a member of Hoover Heights Christian Missionary Alliance. Mr. Denny was a life member of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers. He was a member of the 12th Armored Division Association and the Loyal Order of the Moose. He enjoyed hunting, gardening, and reading. Mr. Denny was also a wonderful caretaker of his wife and enjoyed helping others.

He is survived by two daughters, Marlene A. Denny of Erie County, PA, and Lorraine J. Krueger of New Castle, one brother, Robert E. Denny of New Concord, OH, three grandchildren, Jennifer Susko, Seth Krueger, and Benjamin Krueger, one great grandson, Gage Krueger, and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, William and Edward Denny, and two sisters, Elizabeth Lippmann, and Mary Boyd.

Visitation will be held Monday, October 10, 2011 from 12 noon to 2 PM at the William F. & Roger M. DeCarbo Funeral Home, 926 Cunningham Avenue.

A funeral service will be held Monday, October 10, 2011 at 2 PM at the William F. DeCarbo Memorial Chapel. Rev. Larry Llewellyn of Hoover Heights Christian Missionary Alliance will officiate. The New Castle Area Honor Guard will perform Military Funeral Rites at the funeral home. Burial will be in Castle View Memorial Gardens.
