George W. Malizia

George W. Malizia, 81, of Lakewood Rd., died Sunday, January 1, 2012 at Jameson Memorial Hospital in New Castle. He was born February 22, 1930 in New Castle, a son of the late Carmine and Caroline (Malizia) Malizia. He was married to Trenda (Saesan) Malizia in 1999, she survives in New Castle. Mr. Malizia was involved with the family grocery business, Malizia Market in the Croton area for over 50 years. He was owner and operator of the BestWestern Motel, Bundo's Restaurant, and the Ramada Inn Captain's Table all in Youngstown, OH. Mr. Malizia also had various partnerships in the following businesses, The Hut, Leslie Hotel, and Branding Iron Restaurant all in New Castle, the Sheraton Hotel in West Middlesex, and a business interest in Tri State Sand and Slag Pit in West Pittsburg. He was an Air Forced veteran of the Korean War serving in Korea. Mr. Malizia was a former member of the Dukes Club, was an avid golfer and enjoyed tending to his lawn. He also loved spending time with his family.

He is survived by three daughters, Georgian Malizia of Warren, OH, Carmen Malizia of Stone Mount, GA, and Cindy Longo and her husband Michael of Boardman, OH, one brother, Frank Malizia of New Castle, his first wife, Geraldine Wilson of New Wilmington, his beloved friend and caregiver, Debbie Stone of New Castle, and three grandchildren, Nicollette Longo, Brittany Chill, and Michale Longo Jr.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Sherry Chill.

Visitation will be held at the William F. & Roger M. DeCarbo Funeral Home on Tuesday, January 3, 2012 from 4 PM to 8 PM.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, January 4, 2012 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Vitus Church. Father Sean Francis of St. Vitus Church will be officiating. A funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 9:30 AM. Burial will be in the St. Vitus Cemetery. The New Castle Area Honor Guard will perform Military Funeral Rites at the funeral home Tuesday night.
