Orlando ‘Barney’ Alfera, 87, of Erie, PA, formerly of New Castle, died Monday, January 23, 2012 Erie, Pennsylvania. He was born August 7, 1924 in New Castle, a son of the late Vincenzo and Mary (Castranova) Alfera. He was married to Stella L. (Szymanski) Alfera who died December 3, 2008. Mr. Alfera was an investigator for the US Postal Service retiring in 1988 after many years. He was an Air Force veteran of World War II serving in Africa and England. Mr. Alfera was a member of St. Camillus Church and the Elks Club, and was an avid Steelers and Penguins fan, and enjoyed watching NBA basketball. He also loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by four children, Vincent Alfera and his wife Connie of Cuyahoga Falls, OH, William Alfera and his wife Valerie of Tequesta, FL, David Alfera and his wife Lisa of Annapolis, MD, and Anne Marie Roda and her husband Randy of Erie, PA, nine grandchildren, Jeanie Muller and her husband Josh, Katie McIntyre and her husband Kevin, Jerry Alfera, Michael Alfera, Stephanie Alfera, Joseph, Alfera, Madaline Alfera, Justyn Roda, and Brandon Roda, and two great grandchildren, Jonah and Judson Muller.
He was preceded in death by seven brothers Vincent, Patrick, Joseph, John, Donald, Frank, and Ronald Alfera, and three sisters, Catherine Pace, Elizabeth Johnson, and Theresa Jacobs.
Visitation will be held at the William F. & Roger M. DeCarbo Funeral Home, 926 Cunningham Avenue on Thursday, January 26, 2012 from 5 PM to 8 PM.
Blessing services will be held Thursday, January 26, 2012 at 8:00 P.M. at the William F & Roger M DeCarbo Funeral Home. Father Sean Francis of St. Vitus Church will be officiating. Burial will be in the Madonna Cemetery.
