Phyllis A. Bongivengo, 76, of Jackson Avenue, died Wednesday, June 6, 2012 at UPMC Shadyside Hospital in Pittsburgh. She was born May 31, 1936 in New Castle, a daughter of the late Anthony and Pauline (Ferruchie) Thomas. She was married to the late Vitus Bongivengo who died August 24, 1991. Mrs. Bongivengo was a liner at Shenango China for 15 years. Currently she was a sales associate in Lawn and Garden at Wal-Mart for 16 years. She loved Elvis and went to Memphis on his death anniversary for 35 years with her sister Patty. Mrs. Bongivengo enjoyed flowers and gardening and loved her family and friends.
She is survived by one daughter, Tracey Audia of New Castle, two step-sons, Dave and Pete Bongivengo, both of New Castle, one brother, Tim Thomas of New Castle, one sister, Patty Furillo of New Castle, two grandchildren, Samantha Lombaiso and Brian Audia, four step-grandchildren, one niece, Toni Lynn Librizzi, one nephew, Vince Menichino, a number of great nieces and nephew, and her caregivers, Mary Conti and John Horner.
She was preceded in death by one step-granddaughter.
Visitation will be held at the William F. & Roger M. DeCarbo Funeral Home, 926 Cunningham Avenue, on Monday, June 11, 2012 from 2 to 4 PM and 7 to 9 PM.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, June 12, 2012 at 9:00 AM at Mary Mother of Hope Church. Father Victor J. Molka, Jr. of Mary Mother of Hope Parish will be officiating. A funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 8:30 AM. Burial will be in the St. Joseph Cemetery.
