Samuel J. Rainey, Sr., 90, of 772 Addis Street, New Castle, died Sunday evening, June 12, 2005 at his residence. He was born November 13, 1914 in Hillsville, Pennsylvania the son of Guy Dan and Mary (Thomas) Rainey, they precede him in death. He married Alma Schepp Rainey on October 10, 1940, she survives in New Castle. Mr. Rainey was a manager and clerk for the Pennsylvania State Liquor Stores in New Castle retiring after 30 years. He was an Army veteran of World War II and was a barber for many years. Mr. Rainey was a member of the American Legion and enjoyed playing card, scrabble & crossword puzzles with his wife. He also enjoyed traveling and had a large collection of key chains from his many trips. He also wrote poetry everyday and had several books printed by his family of his many poems.

In addition to his wife he is survived by, 3 sons, Samuel J. Rainey, Jr. of Las Vegas, NV, Anthony R. Rainey of Humboldt County, CA, and Guy D. Rainey of Ashland, OH, 10 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister Constance Antoline.

Visitation will be held at the William F. & Roger M. DeCarbo Funeral Home on Tuesday from 5-8 pm.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, June 15, 2005 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Joseph the Worker Church. Father Robert Schweitzer of St. Joseph the Worker Church will be officiating. A funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 9:30 am. Burial will be in the St. Joseph Cemetery.
