Alfred T. Gardner, 85, of Golden Hill Nursing Home, formerly of Martin St., New Castle, died Monday afternoon, October 22, 2007 at Jameson Memorial Hospital in New Castle, Pennsylvania. He was born October 23, 1921 in New Castle, Pennsylvania a son of Charles and Barbara (Marshall) Gardner. He was married to Mary E. (Peters) Gardner, who died in June 2003. Mr. Gardner worked for C.R. Gardner & Sons Roofing and Heating for over 50 years. He was a partner in the business with his father, then his brothers, Alex and Jim and finally with his nephews, Leslie and Tracy Gardner. He was an Army veteran of World War II serving in Europe at the 1st General Hospital as a Surgical Tech.

He is survived by two step-sons, Jack L. Palmer and his companion Cathy Chomor of Sharon, Pa and Robert A. Palmer and his wife Nancy of New Castle, PA, five grandchildren and his sister-in-law, Ruth Gardner of New Castle.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one step-son, Russell Palmer, four brothers, Alexander Gardner, James Gardner, Richard Gardner, and an infant brother, and six sisters, Matilda McConahy, Lillian Hilyard, Violet Hilyard, Sophia Clemant, Barbara Martin and an infant sister.

Visitation will be held at the William F. & Roger M. DeCarbo Funeral Home on Thursday, October 25, 2007 from 6 pm to 8 pm.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 25, 2007 at 8:00 P.M. at the William F. & Roger M. DeCarbo Funeral Home, Inc. Rev. Ronald Wanless of Croton United Methodist Church will be officiating. Burial will be in the Oak Park Cemetery.
