Virginia E. Averso, 88, of E. Friendship St., New Castle, formerly of Hickory Drive, Hickory Twp., died Saturday, October 13, 2012 at Golden Hill Nursing Home in New Castle. She was born January 12, 1924 in New Castle, a daughter of the late Robert and Ida (Confer) Bigley. She was married to the late Dominick A. Averso, Sr. who died December 1, 1993. Mrs. Averso worked at Shenango China as a clerk for 5 years. She then worked as a cook and food preparer for the Laurel School District retiring after 23 years. Mrs. Averso was an avid Yankee fan and enjoyed making candy.
She is survived by two sons, Dominick A. Averso, Jr. and his wife Barbara of New Castle, and Robert J. Averso and his wife Carol of Pittsburgh, one daughter, Deborah A. Prejsnar and her husband John of New Castle, one sister, Bertha Gladys Bevan of New Castle, seven grandchildren, Stacey Gruber, Dominick Averso, III, John Prejsnar, III, Jenalyn Prejsnar, Tanya Averso, Justin Prejsnar, and Dawn Averso, one step-granddaughter,Amanda Henry, and two great granddaughters, Zoe and Mya Gruber.
She was preceded in death by her brother Richard Bigley, three sisters, Edna Morris, Margaret Olescyski, and Charlotte Mrozek, and her grandson Bryan Averso.
Visitation will be held at the William F. & Roger M. DeCarbo Funeral Home, 926 Cunningham Avenue, on Tuesday, October 16, 2012 from 2 to 4 PM and 7 to 9 PM.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 17, 2012 at 10:00 A.M. at the William F. DeCarbo Memorial Chapel. Pastor Michael Spicuzza of Third Presbyterian Church will be officiating. Burial will be in the Castle View Memorial Gardens.
