Walter E. Garretson, 87, of Hollow Road, died Monday, November 19, 2012 at South Point Personal Care Home in New Castle. He was born December 10, 1924 in Johnstown, Pennsylvania a son of the late George and Laura (Griffith) Garretson. He married Evelyn LaVern (Nycum) Garretson on November 28, 1946, she survives in New Castle. Mr. Garretson was a tree trimming foreman for Penn Power retiring after 35 years. He was an Army veteran of World War II serving in the Pacific Theater with Company A 241st Engineers Combat Battalion. Mr. Garretson enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling and was a member of the VFW. He also loved his family and was a devoted family man.
He is survived by four children, Ginger Stoner and her husband Donald of Eastbrook, PA, Gary Garretson and his wife Lynn of New Castle, Jay Garretson and his wife Elaine of Warren, OH, and Laura Adams and her husband Ron of New Castle, ten grandchildren, and ten great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by six brothers, Jim, George, Bob, Dave, Roy, and John Garretson, and three sisters, Anna Belle Burkhart, Sophie Dayton, and Nancy Garretson.
Visitation will be held at the William F. & Roger M. DeCarbo Funeral Home, 926 Cunningham Avenue on Wednesday, November 21, 2012 from 10 AM to 12 PM.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 21, 2012 at 12:00 P.M. at the William F. DeCarbo Memorial Chapel. Rev. Brian Miller of Peoples Alliance Church will be officiating. The New Castle Area Honor Guard will perform Military Funeral Rites at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Oak Park Cemetery.
