Fred C. Peterson, Jr., 81, of 7th St., New Castle, died Tuesday afternoon, September 20, 2005 at Overlook Nursing Home in New Wilmington, Pennsylvania. He was born September 4, 1924 in New Castle, Pennsylvania the son of Fred and Nellie (Gahagan) Peterson, Sr., they precede him in death. He was married to Rose ‘Piosa’ (Rainey) Peterson, who died December 15, 1987. Mr. Peterson was a brakeman and conductor on the P&LE Railroad retiring after 40 years. He was an Army veteran of World War II serving in Europe and was part of the 1st Division, 3rd Wave on D-Day at Normandy. For his service Mr. Peterson was awarded a Purple Heart, a Silver Star Medal, a European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 4 Bronze Stars and various other medals. After Mr. Peterson retired he enjoyed traveling and visited all 48 continental states.
He is survived by 1 daughter, Mrs. Thomas (Linda) Brua of Volant, PA, 1 son, Fred C. Peterson, III of Ford City, PA, 1 brother, Edward Patrick of Canyon City, CO, 2 sisters, Fay Minteer of New Castle, PA, and Alice Roman of Canyon City, CO, 5 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by his son Albert Peterson, his brother Robert Peterson, his sister Ruth Barnes, one granddaughter and his long time companion Marge Riggle.
Visitation will be held at the William F. & Roger M. DeCarbo Funeral Home on Friday from 10am-12pm.
A Blessing Service will be held Friday, September 23, 2005 at 12:00 P.M. at the William F. DeCarbo Memorial Chapel. Father Frank Erdeljac of St. Vincent de Paul Parish will be officiating. Burial will be in the Eastbrook Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Slippery Rock Twp. The New Castle Area Honor Guard will perform Military Funeral Rites at the Funeral Home.
