Ernest Wanzenried, 75, of New Castle, formerly of Rome, NY, passed away Friday, September 30, 2005, at home after a long illness. He was born in Rome, NY on April 3, 1930, son of the late Fred and Emy Zimmerman Wanzenried. Ernie served with the Air Force from 1950 to 1953. On April 7, 1956, he married Patricia Nash in St. John Baptist Church, Rome, NY. Mr. Wanzenried retired as an aircraft mechanic with US Air in Pittsburgh. Ernie was always interested in flying and enjoyed piloting his own planes. He enjoyed his home in Pennsylvania and his favorite saying was "Blue Skies."

Surviving besides his wife, Patricia, are three daughters and a son-in-law, Cindy and Mark Malkemesof Dallas, PA, Julie Wanzenried of New Castle and Jamie Wanzenried of New York City; three grandchildren, Nicholas and Nina Malkemes and Chance Trask; a brother, Walter Wanzenried of Newport, WA; two sisters, Cecelia Rutz of Roseville, CA and Ann D'Antonio of Citrus Heights, CA. Also surviving are sisters-in-law, Nancy Wells and Nancy Nasci, both of Rome, NY and James and Betty Nash of Westerville, NY; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a brother, Fritz Wanzenried.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 8:15 am from the Nicholas J. Bush Funeral Home, Inc., 218 W. Court St., Rome, NY and at St. John the Baptist Church at 9 am. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 4 to 7 pm.
