Joseph D. Vitale

Joseph D. Vitale, 84, of East Elizabeth Street, died peacefully with his family by his side to go to his Lord and Savior, Friday, March 29, 2013 at Golden Hill Nursing Home in New Castle. He was born September 30, 1928 in New Castle, the son of Dominic and Rose (Cioffi) Vitale. He married Donna L. (Heasley) Vitale on June 24, 1950, she survives in New Castle. Mr. Vitale was an inspector at Youngstown Sheet and Tube retiring after 29 1/2 years. He was a member of the Mahoning Sportsmen Club, Bessemer Rod and Gun Club and the Johnson Club. He was a trustee of the Mahoning Sportsmen Club in charge of the kitchen and grounds. Since his youth he was an avid hunter, fisherman and a great outdoorsman. Mr. Vitale was affiliated with the ASA 7th Ward Softball and coached a number of teams. He was vice-president of the Gaston Park Softball League and played softball in his youth. He also was a greeter at Wal-Mart for many years.

He is survived by four daughters, Rosanne Cugini and her husband Joe of New Castle, Joni Cugini of New Castle, Bonita Morgan and her husband Anthony of New Castle, and Mary Jo Anderson of Hazelton, PA, one sister, Lucille Padias of Tucson, AZ, six grandchildren, Dayna Palus, Stephanie Ginocchietti, Natalie Twaddle, Alyssa Cugini, Anthony Morgan and Anthony Cugini, and two great grandchildren, Christopher and Kaylee Fornataro.

He was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Anthony Cugini and one granddaughter, Breona Cugini.

Visitation will be held at the William F. & Roger M. DeCarbo Funeral Home on Monday from 5 PM to 8 PM.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Camillus Church. Father Thomas J. Lewandowski of St. Camillus Church will be officiating. A funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 9:30 AM. Burial will be in the St. Vitus Cemetery.
