Joseph A. Nerti, Sr., 81, of Center Ave., West Pittsburg, died Tuesday evening, April 8, 2008 at his home in West Pittsburg, Pennsylvania. He was born May 19, 1926 in West Pittsburg, Pennsylvania a son of the late Antonio and Catherine (Cappatt) Nerti. He married Louise (Carney) Nerti on November 26, 1949, she survives in West Pittsburg. Mr. Nerti worked for 15 years at Medusa Cement, he also worked at West Penn Mirror for many years. He was a Navy veteran of World War II serving on the USS E.B. Hall in the Pacific Theater. Mr. Nerti owned and operated Carney's Groceries in South New Castle Boro for many years. He was a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Parish and the Armando Diaz Club and enjoyed watching Westerns and playing cards, especially 500 Bid. Mr. Nerti was also an avid sports fan and loved the Steelers and Pirates.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by, one son, John P. Nerti of West Pittsburg, PA, two daughters, Catherine Angelo and her husband Michael of Edinburg, PA, and Christine L. Nerti of West Pittsburg, PA, three brothers, Patsy Nerti of West Pittsburg, PA, Phillip Nerti of Wampum, PA, and Victor Nerti of New Castle, PA, three sisters, Josephine Winter, Betty Miller, and Shirley Bessell all of West Pittsburg, PA, six grandchildren, Michael Angelo, Jr., Kim Gabriel, Joe Angelo, Lisa Gasperoni, J.J. Nerti and Rocco Nerti, and two great grandchildren, Morgan and Logan Gabriel.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by, one son, Joseph A. ‘Coke’ Nerti, Jr., one brother John C. Nerti, and four sisters, Mary Nerti, Tresia Mozzocio, Rose Nerti, and Jennie Stelter.

Visitation will be held at the William F. & Roger M. DeCarbo Funeral Home on Friday, April 11, 2008 from 5 pm to 8 pm.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, April 12, 2008 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Vincent de Paul Church. Father Kenneth Keene of St. Vincent de Paul Parish will be officiating. A funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 9:30 am. Burial will be in the St. Lucy Cemetery. The New Castle Area Honor Guard will perform Military Funeral Services at the cemetery.
