Howard Albert Gaston, 79, of Gardner Stop Road, passed away at his residence Sunday, June 23, 2013, with his family by his side. He was born on November 26, 1933 in New Castle, Howard was the son of the late John S. and Dorothy (Humble) Gaston. He is survived by his wife, the former Sandra (McCollough) Gaston, whom he married on September 16, 1957. Howard graduated from New Castle High School in 1952 and attended New Castle Business College. Howard was a veteran of the Army and served in Germany from 1953 to 1956. He was an active member and elder of the Center Presbyterian Church of New Castle. He worked for Bell Telephone as an installer in New Castle for over 40 years. Following retirement he and his wife enjoyed their sailboat at the Ashtabula Yacht Club. He was Past Master of the Lodge of the Craft Westminster #433 and District II Commander of the United States Power Squadron. He was a Steelers fan and was seldom seen without a Steelers shirt. Besides sailing Howard enjoyed time with his family and grandchildren.

Howard is also survived by three children, Rev. Dr. Howard Gaston and wife Donna of Barnet, Vermont; Russell Gaston and wife Pam of New Castle; and Tracey Sinopoli and husband John of New Wilmington, PA. He is also survived by nine grandchildren: Sandra Perrine, Rebecca Gaston, John Gaston, Amanda Gaston, Jenna Gaston, Richard Gaston, Danielle Clingerman, Melissa Black and Cody Black, as well as great granddaughter Harley Clingerman.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, John S. Gaston and his sister Shirley Dover.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, June 26, 2013 from 5 PM to 8 PM at the William F. & Roger M. DeCarbo Funeral Home, 926 Cunningham Avenue.

Funeral service will be Thursday, June 27, 2013 at 11:00 AM at the Center Presbyterian Church on Center Church Road. A funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 10:30 AM. The Rev. Dr. James Bibza and Rev. Dr. Randy Stringer will officiate. Interment will take place at the Center Church Cemetery. The New Castle Area Honor Guard will perform Military Funeral Rites at the Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to the Center Presbyterian Church, 1143 Center Church Rd., New Castle, PA 16101.
