Sam Aiello, 84, of Lutton St., New Castle, died Thursday morning, April 10, 2008 at Jameson Memorial Hospital in New Castle, Pennsylvania. He was born January 24, 1924 in New Castle, Pennsylvania a son of the late Louis and Caroline (Marino) Aiello. He married Mary (Caravaggio) Aiello on October 12, 1949, she survives in New Castle. Mr. Aiello retired from the United States Post Office as a Postal Service Officer after 30 years. Prior to working at the Post Office he was a self-employed shoe repairman in downtown New Castle for many years and then Manager of Neisners' Brothers Department Store Shoe Department. Mr. Aiello was an Army Air Corp. veteran of World War II serving in the Pacific. He was a Sergeant with the 873rd Bombardment Squadron of the 498th Bomber Group. He was attached to the first Squadron of B-29 Bombers sent to the Pacific and received 3 Bronze Stars for his service. Mr. Aiello was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing and traveling with his wife.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by, two daughters, Caroline DeAugustine and her husband Richard of New Castle, PA, and Angela Samuels of Indianapolis, IN, one brother, Michael Aiello of New Castle, PA, two sisters, Clara Mastrioanni and Mary Christine Aiello both of New Castle, PA, two grandchildren, one step-grandson, four great grandchildren and four step-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by, one brother, Joseph Aiello, and four sisters, Angeline Grant, Jennie Villa, Genevieve Fiddell, and Frances Aiello.

Visitation will be held at the William F. & Roger M. DeCarbo Funeral Home on Sunday, April 13, 2008 from 5 pm to 8 pm.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, April 14, 2008 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Vitus Church. Father Robert Zajdel of St. Vitus Church will be officiating. A funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 9:30 am. Burial will be in the Castle View Memorial Gardens. The New Castle Area Honor Guard will perform Military Funeral Services at the cemetery.
