Ruth E. Stinson, 91, of the Butler VA Hospital, Butler, died Saturday, June 29, 2013 at Butler Veterans Hospital in Butler. She was born June 20, 1922 in Plattsburgh, New York the daughter of the late Minnie (Byrd) Makowski. Mrs. Stinson was an Army veteran of World War II serving stateside as an Army Nurse. She was one of the first members of the Women's Army Corp. for 4 years. She was a life long solider in the Salvation Army (and a church member). She was a resident of Golden Hill Nursing Home for 26 years before going to the Butler VA. Mrs. Stinson enjoyed traveling, crocheting, crafts, word games and watching and reading Westerns.
She is survived by one son, Jerry D. Stinson of Concord, NH and her daughter-in-law, Susan Stinson of Concord, NH, one brother, Robert Makowski of Phoenix, AZ, two grandchildren, David S. Stinson and Matthew D. Stinson and three great grandchildren, Madeline, Caeden, and Sarah Stinson.
She was preceded in death by her sister Mildred Bodah.
Funeral services will be held Friday, July 5, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. at Oak Park Cemetery. Major Susan Stinson of Salvation Army will be officiating. Burial will be in the Oak Park Cemetery. The New Castle Area Honor Guard will perform Military Funeral Rites at the cemetery. Funeral arrangements are by the William F. & Roger M. DeCarbo Funeral Home, 926 Cunningham Avenue.
