William C. McCandless, Jr., 69, of Franklin Ave., New Castle, died Monday evening, June 2, 2008 at his home in New Castle. He was born January 28, 1939 in Kane, Pennsylvania a son of the late William and Nora (Baun) McCandless. He married Dona (Feronti) McCandless on November 7, 1959, she survives in New Castle. Mr. McCandless was a machine operator with City Asphalt and Paving retiring after 25 years. He was affectionately called 'Papa Bill' by his grandchildren who he loved spending time with. Mr. McCandless was a life member of the Elks Club of Kane, PA and enjoyed fishing, boating and his antique 1976 Chevy Custom Deluxe Truck. He was also a diehard Steelers fan.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Linda Whiting and her husband Joe, Patty Staph and her husband Mark, and Jackie Kumrow and her husband Robert, all of New Castle, PA, two sons, Ronald McCandless and William J. ‘Bump’ McCandless and his wife Valerie, both of New Castle, PA, three sisters, Vicky Bliss of Kane, PA, Burdetta Miller of Columbia, SC, and Ruth Camp of Daytona, FL, nine grandchildren and three great granddaughters.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother James McCandless, his sister Dorothy Hillard, and his granddaughter Kyleigh Marie McCandless.
Visitation will be held at the William F. & Roger M. DeCarbo Funeral Home on Thursday, June 5, 2008 from 4 pm to 8 pm.
Funeral services will be held Friday, June 6, 2008 at 11:30 am at the William F. DeCarbo Memorial Chapel. Rev. Matthew Bupp will be officiating. Burial will be in the Parkside Cemetery.
