John F. Petrello

John F. Petrello, Sr., 87, of Sunny Ave., New Castle, died Tuesday afternoon, June 10, 2008 at Haven Convalescent Home in New Castle. He was born November 21, 1920 in Hillsville, Pennsylvania a son of the late Frank and Angela (Marteralla) Petrella. He was married to Rose A. (Startari) Petrello who died on January 28, 1995. Mr. Petrello was a Coal Yard Supervisor for Penn Power retiring after 35 years. He was an Army veteran of World War II serving in the Middle East and Africa. Mr. Petrello was a member of the American Legion Post 343 and was a car enthusiast and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by two daughters, Angela M. Mehelic and her husband Nick of New Wilmington, PA, and Mary Ann Buckley and her husband Anthony of New Castle, PA, three sons, John F. Petrello, Jr. and his wife Marge of Sierra Vista, AZ, and Frank J. Petrello and his wife Susan and Joseph A. Petrello and his wife Esther, both of New Castle, PA, one brother, Peter S. Petrella of New Castle, PA, four sisters, Dolly Castellano and Jean Vivelo, both of Greensburg, PA, Theresa Krawchyk of Kopple, PA, and Fran McAnallen of Van Nyns, CA, fifteen grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Joseph and Antonio Petrella, and one sister, Rose Schweikert.

Visitation will be held at the William F. & Roger M. DeCarbo Funeral Home on Thursday, June 12, 2008 from 5 pm to 8 pm.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, June 13, 2008 at 9:00 am at St. Mary Church. Father Victor J. Molka, Jr. of Mary Mother of Hope Parish will be officiating. A funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 8:30 am. Burial will be in the St. Lawrence Cemetery in Hillsville. The New Castle Area Honor Guard will perform Military Funeral Rites at the cemetery.
