John F. Cook, 67, of Dewey Ave., New Castle, died Sunday, June 15, 2008 at Jameson Memorial Hospital in New Castle. He was born August 3, 1940 in New Castle, Pennsylvania a son of the late Dominic and Frances (Malizia) Cook. He married Garnet M. (Gentile) Cook on May 15, 1965, she survives in New Castle. Mr. Cook was a Custodian for the New Castle Area Schools at Ben Franklin Jr. High School retiring after 31 years. He was an Army veteran serving in Germany. Mr. Cook was a member of the Duca Degli Abruzzi Society and St. Vitus Church and was an avid golfer and enjoyed making homemade pizzas.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by, three brothers, Chuck, Bob, and Dan Cook, all of New Castle, PA, three sisters, Dora ‘Tootsie’ Pettrucci, Frances ‘Chickie’ Elisco, and Tina Brunswick, all of New Castle, PA and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Jimmy, Dom, Frank, and Norm Cook, and two sisters, Judy Cook and Lucile Demos.
Visitation will be held at the William F. & Roger M. DeCarbo Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 17, 2008 from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, June 18, 2008 at 10:00 am at St. Vitus Church. Father Robert Zajdel of St. Vitus Church will be officiating. A funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 9:30 am. Burial will be in the Parkside Cemetery. The New Castle Area Honor Guard will perform Military Funeral Rites at the cemetery.
