Rose M. Hookway, 87, of Eastbrook Volant Road, Hickory Twp., died Thursday, January 30, 2014 at Jameson Memorial Hospital in New Castle. She was born May 27, 1926 in New Castle, a daughter of the late Salvatore and Antoinette (Osso) Cavallo. She married William J. Hookway on December 29, 1953, he survives in New Castle. Mrs. Hookway was an inspector at Shenango China for many years. She then worked at Westminster College in the Titan Union. She was a volunteer for St. Francis and Jameson Hospice, the Women's Shelter and the Heart Association. Mrs. Hookway was a member of the Lady's Aid Society of Christ Lutheran Church and enjoyed knitting and baking cookies on a stick. She will be fondly remembered as Gramma Rose.
She is survived by three daughters, Mary Jo Kulinski and her husband Jon of Myrtle Beach, SC, Linda R. Abraham of New Castle, and Patty R. Allshouse and her husband Jim of New Castle, one brother, Louis Cavallo of New Castle, two sisters, Delores Perrine of Sterling Park, VA, and Carol Jones of New Castle, six grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Sam and Anthony Cavallo, and three sisters, Mary Augustine, Virginia Shaw, and Louise Watson.
Visitation will be held at the William F. & Roger M. DeCarbo Funeral Home, 926 Cunningham Avenue on Sunday, February 2, 2014 from 2 PM to 5 PM.
Funeral services will be held Monday, February 3, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. at Christ Lutheran Church. Rev. Sean Walters of Christ Lutheran Church will be officiating. A funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 9:30 AM. Burial will be in the Mt. Hermon Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to Jameson Hospice or Christ Lutheran Church Door Fund in honor of Rose.
