Joseph DePola, 87, of E. Sheridan Ave., New Castle, died Thursday morning, July 3, 2008 at Jameson Care Center in New Castle. He was born March 5, 1921 in New Castle, Pennsylvania a son of the late Frank and Angela (Zipiteo) DePola. He married Helen R. (Porco) DePola on April 19, 1946. She survives in New Castle. Mr. DePola worked for Mooney Brothers as an Operating Engineer for 20 years. He then was owner and operator of DePola Excavating and Grading for 36 years. Mr. DePola held the only Mining License in the City of New Castle and made his own gravel, sand and loom. He also created a special mixture of Baseball Field Material that he sold throughout the area. Mr. DePola was a Navy veteran of World War II serving in Japan with the Sea Bees as a Heavy Equipment Operator. For his service he received the Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic Pacific Theater Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. Mr. DePola was a member of the Church of God of Highland Ave. and was a devoted family man and hard worker. He had a deep faith and trust in his Savior Jesus Christ and was a loving and loyal husband and father.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by, one daughter, Mrs. Victor (Janice) Ialongo of Ellwood City, PA, and one granddaughter, Kristin A. DePola of Suffolk, VA.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by, one son, Joseph DePola, Jr., six brothers, Kirk, Patsy, Domenick, Anthony, Ross, and Charles DePola, and one sister, Mary A. Tartaglione.
Visitation will be held at the William F. & Roger M. DeCarbo Funeral Home on Saturday, July 5, 2008 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 5, 2008 at 1:00 pm at the William F. DeCarbo Memorial Chapel. Pastor Ronald Mounts of Church of God and Rev. Frederick Gilbert of Independent Methodist Church will be officiating. Burial will be in the Castle View Memorial Gardens. The New Castle Area Honor Guard will perform Military Funeral Rites at the funeral home.
