Assunta ‘Susie’ Matarazzo, 97, of Mahoningtown, died Sunday afternoon, December 4, 2005 at Jameson Memorial Hospital in New Castle, Pennsylvania. She was born August 15, 1908 in Casserta, Italy the daughter of Sabatino and Maria (Martone) Frigone, they precede her in death. She immigrated to Mahoningtown at the age of four. She was married to John Matarazzo for 70 years. He died February 4, 1997. Mrs. Matarazzo was a caring and dedicated homemaker whose spirit of generosity, humor, tolerance and compassion had a bearing not only on her family but on many who knew her as well. She was an avid pet lover and had a penchant for detective and mystery novels. Her pride lied in her ability and talent for cooking, canning and baking. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting and needlework.

She is survived by 1 son, Leonard Matarazzo of New Castle, PA, 2 daughters, Mrs. Louis (Marie 'Dolly') Rainey of New Castle, PA and Dolores 'Dee' Matarazzo of New Castle, PA, 2 grandchildren, John E. Matarazzo and his wife Laura and Christa Rainey, 3 great grandchildren, John Leonard, Gabriella and Carmella Matarazzo and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by her brother Joseph Frigone and her sister Mamie Isabella.

Visitation will be held at the William F. & Roger M. DeCarbo Funeral Home on Thursday from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, December 9, 2005 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Lucy Church. Father Kenneth Keene of St. Vincent de Paul Parish will be officiating. A funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 9:30 am. Burial will be in the St. Lucy Cemetery.
