Karen R. Messner, 70, of Cotton Road, New Wilmington, died Sunday, May 11, 2014 at her home in New Wilmington. She was born February 25, 1944 in New Castle, the daughter of the late Harry and Elvira (Phillips) Toscano. She married Wayne L. Messner on September 13, 1969, he survives in New Wilmington. Mrs. Messner taught remedial reading and math and computer technology for the New Castle Area School District retiring after over 35 years. She enjoyed traveling, cooking and golfing. She also loved to teach and work with children, but her greatest love was spending time with her family and grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons, Thomas W. Messner of Grand Blanc, MI, and Daniel L. Messner of Pataskala, OH, one brother, Harry Toscano, Jr. of New Castle, and two grandsons, Thomas A. Messner and Joseph A. Messner.
Visitation will be held at the William F. & Roger M. DeCarbo Funeral Home, 926 Cunningham Avenue on Wednesday, May 14, 2014 from 2 PM to 4PM & 5 PM to 8 PM.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, May 15, 2014 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Joseph the Worker Church. Very Reverend Lawrence A. DiNardo will be officiating. A funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 9:30 AM. Burial will be in the Castle View Memorial Gardens.
