Richard P. Hess, 72, of East Maitland Lane, New Castle, passed away Sunday, June 1, 2014 at Jameson Care Center in New Castle. He was born September 22, 1941 in McKeesport, Pennsylvania a son of the late Paul and Evelyn (Whitmore) Hess.

He married Carol R. (Baer) Hess on January 21, 1965, she survives in New Castle. Mr. Hess was founder, owner and operator of Quickprint Printing / Hess Commercial Printing, Inc. in New Castle, PA for over 30 years. In 1978 he founded Quickprint Printing and Copying. Mr. Hess in 2001 incorporated Quickprint into Hess Commercial Printing, Inc. He retired as owner and consultant from the company in 2008.
Prior to that he was an independent truck driver for 10 years and worked for Van Huffle Tube for 15 years. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club, Optimist Club, Rotary Club and Eagles Club. Mr. Hess's greatest joy was spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren. His greatest accomplishment was being the best husband, father and grandfather. He loved being “Papa” to his grandchildren and attending many sporting and other events they were involved in.

He was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers and Boston Celtic fan. He enjoyed watching and listening to the games. Mr. Hess loved his history channel, car shows and often told many stories about his classic cars he had in his younger days. He also enjoyed playing cards with his brothers and friends in his youth.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children, Carrie Lynn Mason and her husband Shawn of Grove City, PA, Cheri Jo Winck and her husband Tracy of Edinburg, PA, and Jason Matthew Hess and his wife Leslie of New Bedford, PA, one sister, Phyllis Siwiecki of Clarion, PA and eight grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Lt. Paul Hess Jr. and Kenneth Hess, and two sisters, Lorna O'Brien and Kimberly Hammar and a nephew, Paul Joseph Hess.

A private memorial service will be held at the William F. DeCarbo Memorial Chapel. Pastor John Yergan will be officiating. Burial will be in St. Rose Cemetery in Hermitage, PA. Funeral arrangements are by the William F. & Roger M. DeCarbo Funeral Home, 926 Cunningham Avenue. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to the St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
