Marjorie J. Young

Marjorie J. Young, 98, formerly of Reading, PA, died Tuesday, June 17, 2014 at her home in New Castle. She was born February 25, 1916 in Chicago, IL a daughter of the late Harry and Margaret (Turk) Eastwood. She married the late Leonard L. Young on September 21, 1941, he died October 3, 1996. Mrs. Young was homemaker and attended Trinity United Church of Christ and First United Brethren Church. She was a graduate of Mt. Penn High School in Reading, PA, their first graduating class of 1933 and she attended Albright College. She was very active in the Reading Area church and community and was a greeter at the church. Mrs. Young was project coordinator for Meals on Wheels for over 30 years, a member of the Antietam Valley Women's Club and a Girl Scout leader for Troop 867 for 10 years. She will be remembered for being very supportive and encouraging of her friends and family in all of their endeavors.

She is survived by a three children, James M. Young and his wife Cindy of Boca Raton, FL, Margaret 'Peg' A. Barnes and her husband Bruce of Merced, CA and Sandra J. Young of New Castle, two sisters, Betty Ratliff of Birmingham, AL and Dottie Jennings of Sparks, NV, three grandchildren, Heather Garcia, Sara Barnes, and Nicholas Young and one great grandson, Hudson Garcia.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Frances Henderlite.

A Memorial Service will be scheduled for a later date. Funeral arrangements are by the William F. & Roger M. DeCarbo Funeral Home, 926 Cunningham Avenue. Memorial contributions can be made to the Lawrence County Humane Society and the Berks County Animal Rescue League.
