Everett Eugene 'Red' Downing, Sr.

Everett Eugene ‘Red’ Downing, Sr., 82, of Eastbrook Road, New Castle, died Friday, July 11, 2014 at his home in New Castle. He was born December 29, 1931 in New Castle, a son of the late Wilbur ‘Duke’ and Pauline (Perdue) Downing. He married Marilyn Jean (Smith) Downing in 1950, she survives in New Castle. Mr. Downing was owner and operator of Downing Cabinets for a number of years, retiring in 2001. He was a former member of the Castle Pistol Club and a pilot of small planes. He also enjoyed bowling and fishing.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by five sons, Everett E. Downing, Jr. and his wife Sheila of Cochranton, PA, Dennis K. Downing and his wife Pamela of Pulaski, PA, Timothy Downing of Slippery Rock, PA, Larry Downing and his wife Debra of New Castle, and Gerald M. Downing and his wife Diane of New Castle, one brother, James Downing and his wife Carol of New Castle, one sister, Sally Rung and her husband John ‘Butch’ of New Castle, one brother-in-law, Thomas McKee of New Castle, seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, June McKee and one granddaughter, Sarah Downing.

Visitation will be held at the William F. & Roger M. DeCarbo Funeral Home, 926 Cunningham Avenue on Tuesday, July 15, 2014 from 5 PM to 7 PM.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 15, 2014 at 7:00 P.M. at the William F. DeCarbo Memorial Chapel. Rev. Nelson Thayer of Eastbrook United Methodist Church will be officiating. Burial will be in Bryer Hill Cemetery in New Castle.
