Leslie H. Champion, Sr., 78, of Phillips Street, New Castle, died Thursday, November 6, 2014 at Edison Manor Nursing Home in New Castle. He was born July 20, 1936 in Plain Grove, Pennsylvania a son of the late Leslie Champion and Gertrude (Boozel) Rodgers. Mr. Champion was an owner/operator truck driver and a diesel mechanic at Champion Diesel for over 25 years. He was a Marine veteran of the Korean Era. Mr. Champion was a member of the American Legion, Sons of Italy and VFW and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed watching NASCAR and football.
He is survived by five children, Leslie H. Champion, Jr. and his wife Louann of New Brighton, PA, Becky L. Champion of New Castle, PA, Robert J. Champion and his wife Debi of Blythewood, SC, Roy J. Champion and his wife Barbara of Ringold, GA, and Anthony R. Champion and his wife Karen of Soddy Daisy, TN, two brothers, Harold Champion of Ellwood City, PA and William James Champion of Salem, OH, two sisters, Rachel Greenawalt of Bourbannis, IL and Kathleen Conrad of Ocoee, Florida, fifteen grandchildren and one great granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by an Infant Son, one daughter, Deborah Champion, and two sisters, Margaret Dobbin and Mary Powell.
Visitation will be held at the William F. & Roger M. DeCarbo Funeral Home, 926 Cunningham Avenue on Tuesday, November 11, 2014 from 3 PM to 5 PM.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 11, 2014 at 5:00 P.M. at the William F. & Roger M. DeCarbo Funeral Home. Rev. Dennis Bupp will be officiating.
