Betty Jane Rizzo

Betty Jane Rizzo, 87, of East Friendship Street, New Castle, died Wednesday, December 24, 2014 at Jameson Memorial Hospital in New Castle. She was born May 6, 1927 in New Castle, a daughter of the late Angelo and Maria (Zapatta) DeMatto. She was married to the late Ben J. Rizzo who died May 8, 2008. Mrs. Rizzo worked at Johnson Bronze as a machine operator and then for Gardan Manufacturing as a seamstress for many years. She also did miscellaneous seamstress work over the years. Mrs. Rizzo was a member of the Cancer Support Group of New Castle and a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. She enjoyed cooking, her cats and spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by two children, Ronald A. Rizzo and his wife Darleen of New Castle, and Lisa M. Cessna of Columbus, OH, four sisters, Susan DeEulio of Pittsburgh, Elizabeth ‘Alice’ Giammatteo of New Castle, Angeline ‘Gerry’ DeMatto of New Castle, and Rose Peebles of Cleveland, OH, seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by her brother George DeMatto, and her sister Christina DeMatto.

Visitation will be held at the William F. & Roger M. DeCarbo Funeral Home, 926 Cunningham Avenue on Sunday, December 28, 2014 from 3 PM to 6 PM.

Funeral services will be held Monday, December 29, 2014 at 12:00 P.M. at the William F. DeCarbo Memorial Chapel. Rev. Ted Saad of Word of Life Christian Fellowship will be officiating. Entombment will be in the Castle View Memorial Gardens.
