Edward E. Fairchild, 51, of Arlington Ave., New Castle, died Sunday afternoon, November 16, 2008 at UPMC Shadyside Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He was born June 6, 1957 in Dearborn, Michigan a son of Richard Israel and Dolores (Fistler) Smith. His father precedes him in death, his mother survives in Woodhaven, MI. He married Ruth A. (Fraser) Fairchild on June 10, 1986, she survives in New Castle. Mr. Fairchild was an Army veteran serving for 15 years. He was a Sergeant who served as an Administrative Specialist stateside and overseas. He worked for the American Legion in Pittsburgh, PA as an Assistant Service Officer for 3 years. Mr. Fairchild was a member of VFW Post 315, American Legion Post 343, and the CG's bowling and dart leagues.

In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by, his son, Edward E. Fairchild, II of Taylor, MI, one brother, Raymond Johnson of Woodhaven, MI and one sister, Dolores Johnson of Ohio.

He was preceded in death by his father and his brother, William Johnson.

Visitation will be held at the William F. & Roger M. DeCarbo Funeral Home on Wednesday, November 19, 2008 from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 20, 2008 at 10:00 am at the William F. DeCarbo Memorial Chapel. Rev. Frederick Gilbert of Independent Methodist Church will be officiating. John Fraser, brother-in-law of the deceased and Assistant Pastor of Arlington Ave. Free Methodist Church will be co-celebrant. Burial will be in the Parkside Cemetery. The New Castle Area Honor Guard will perform Military Funeral Rites at the Cemetery.
