Dr. Ludwig A. Lombardi, 76, of 110 Ludwig RD, New Castle, died Thursday morning, February 2, 2006 at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He was born January 7, 1930 in New Castle, Pennsylvania the son of Domenic and Anna (DeMatteo) Lombardi, they precede him in death. He was married to Beverly A. (Suter) Lombardi for 53 years, she survives in New Castle. Dr. Lombardi practiced general dentistry and oral surgery in New Castle for 53 years. He was a member and former president of Delta Sigma Delta Fraternity, was on the surgical staff at Jameson Memorial Hospital and St. Francis Hospital, and was past-president of St. Francis Hospital Surgical Staff and the Lawrence County Dental Society. He was a member of the New Castle Country Club, the Lawrence County Historical Society, the Korean War Veterans, American Legion, the National Rifle Association and the Lawrence County Sportsman Club. Dr. Lombardi was a Navy veteran of the Korean War serving stateside as a Lieutenant and a dentist and oral surgeon attached with the Marine Corp. He was an avid ham radio operator, he enjoyed traveling and astronomy. He built his own telescopes and witnessed 4 total eclipses of the sun around the world. Dr. Lombardi also enjoyed riding motorcycles and building his own computers.

In addition to his wife he is survived by, 2 daughters, Deborah J. Saunders of Marietta, GA, and Gina M. Hennon of New Castle, PA, 1 son, Dr. Steven B. Lombardi of New Castle, PA, 1 brother, Dr. A. Vincent Lombardi of New Castle, PA, 1 sister, Lorraine Hunt of Doylestown, PA and 3 grandchildren, Anna Hennon, James Hennon and Martin Saunders.

Visitation will be held at the William F. & Roger M. DeCarbo Funeral Home on Friday from 5-8 pm and Saturday from 10 am to 12 noon.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, February 4, 2006 at 12:30 P.M. at St. Camillus Church. Father Phil Farrell of St. Camillus Church will be officiating. The New Castle Area Honor Guard will perform military funeral rites at the funeral home at 11:45 am on Saturday. Burial will be in the St. Joseph Cemetery.
