Michael A. Nutz, Sr., 88, of Barbara Lane, New Castle, died Thursday, March 19, 2015 at Golden Hill Nursing Home in New Castle. He was born October 15, 1926 in Midland, Pennsylvania a son of the late Patsy and Rose (DiCapio) Nutz. He was married to the late Dorothy P. (Horcholich) Nutz who died January 29, 1980. He then married the late Antoniette C. (Russo) Nutz who died August 3, 2010. Mr. Nutz was a graduate of Midland High School in 1944 and Duquesne University in 1952 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Pharmacology. He was Senior Class President at Duquesne. He was a part owner of Hyde Drug Store for 21 years and was the Staff Pharmacist and Director of Pharmacy for St. Francis Hospital for 25 years. Mr. Nutz was a US Army Infantry and Quartermaster and served with the Army Air Corp. in World War II for 18 months in the Pacific. He was past president of the Lawrence County Pharmalogical Association, Bessemer-Mohawk Rotary, St. Lucy Holy Name and was president of St. Francis Federal Credit Union for 25 years. He enjoyed world travels, going to Challenges and received great joy from his grandchildren.

He is survived by one son, Michael A. Nutz, Jr. and his wife Patricia of New Castle, four step-daughters, Joann M. Burghart and her husband Mark of West Monroe, NY, Jean A. Slane and her husband Terry of Pt. St. Lucie, FL, Jane A. Schaas of Pt. St. Lucie, FL, and June M. Tanner and her husband Larry of Portersville, PA, one sister, Julia Gelormino of Coraopolis, PA, five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by six brothers, Albert, Anthony, Ned, Frank, Angelo and Patsy Nutz, and five sisters, Mary Gelormino, Viola Miller, Nicolette Rogers, Sandra Placid and Rose Nutz.

Visitation will be held at the William F. & Roger M. DeCarbo Funeral Home, 926 Cunningham Avenue on Sunday, March 22, 2015 from 3 PM to 6 PM.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, March 23, 2015 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Camillus Church. Father Michael Peck of St. Camillus Church will be officiating. A funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 9:15 AM. Entombment will be in the Castle View Memorial Gardens. The New Castle Area Honor Guard will perform Military Funeral Rites at the cemetery.
