Gomer Anthony 'Tony' Emery

Gomer Anthony "Tony" Emery, 68, of New Castle, died Tuesday, June 23, 2015 in Butler, PA. He was born October 11, 1946 to Gomer S. Emery and Mafalda (Sfreddo) Emery. Mr. Emery was active in sales through most of his work life and owned and operated the Foam Away Cleaning Company from 1995 to 2006. He also worked in sales at various local Paving Companies. In addition to sales, Gomer - "Tony" sang professionally starting in 1968. His first affiliation was as one of two lead singers with The Hi Boys which performed choreographed top R&B songs with arrangements by Mr. Bill Braho. Other groups featured Mr. Emery at places such as the Castleton Hotel and the Swallows nightclub in New Castle and in Las Vegas, Nevada. He was also locally known as ‘DJ Tony’ for a number of years and entertained at the Ambassador Hotel in Las Vegas.

"Tony" is survived by his wife of 13 years, Sarah J. (Gagliano) Emery and their miniature Chihuahua, "Babe." Along with other couples who became dear friends, "Tony" & Sarah enjoyed many years of dancing together locally and in the Pittsburgh area. His favorite pastime was the game of Golf and he especially enjoyed playing a round with his brother, John and brother-in-law, Ralph. ‘Tony’ was also a member and officer of the Sons of Italy and a member of the Moose Club. Their church affiliation was with St. Vincent DePaul Parish in Mahoningtown.

Mr. Emery is also survived by three daughters, Ms. Lainie M. Emery of New Castle, Ms. Toni M Riesch and her husband Doug of Florida and Ms. Christina M. Emery of Brooklyn, NY, his father, Gomer S. Emery, and brother John P. Emery of New Castle, a sister, Anita M. Emery and partner Betsy of North Carolina, nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Gomer was preceded in death by his sister, Jennie Cialella Smiley in 1997, his step-son Vincent Quahliero in 2007 and his mother, Mafalda Emery.

Visitation will be held Thursday, June 25, 2015 from 4 PM to 8 PM at the William F. & Roger M. DeCarbo Funeral Home, 926 Cunningham Avenue.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, June 26, 2015 at 10:00 AM at St. Vincent de Paul Church. Father Larry Adams of St. Vincent de Paul will officiate. A funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 9:30 AM. Burial will be in St. Lucy Cemetery.
