William J. Hookway

William J. Hookway, Jr., 87, of Eastbrook Volant Rd., New Castle, died Thursday, August 20, 2015 at his home in New Castle. He was born February 3, 1928 in New Castle, a son of the late William and Ruth (McAdams) Hookway. He was married to the late Rose M. (Cavallo) Hookway who died January 30, 2014. Mr. Hookway worked for LTV Steel retiring after 30 years as a bricklayer and he also worked for Merritt Carpet for a number of years. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and a life member of VFW Post 315 and the DAV. Mr. Hookway also enjoyed hunting and the outdoors.

He is survived by three daughters, Mary Jo Kulinski and her husband John of Myrtle Beach, SC, Linda Abraham of New Castle, and Patty Allshouse and her husband James of New Castle, one sister, Ria Fisher of New Castle, six grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by one brother, Edward Hookway and one sister, Dorothy Haybarger.

Visitation will be held at the William F. & Roger M. DeCarbo Funeral Home, 926 Cunningham Avenue on Monday, August 24, 2015 from 4 PM to 7 PM.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 25, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. at Christ Lutheran Church. Pastor Sean Walters of Christ Lutheran Church will be officiating. The New Castle Area Honor Guard will perform Military Funeral Rites at the church. Burial will be in the Mt. Hermon Cemetery. Memorial donations can be made in Mr. Hookway’s name to Christ Lutheran Church or Jameson Hospice.
