Frederico N. Camera, Sr., 86, of Thorpe Street, New Castle, died Sunday, August 30, 2015 at Jameson Memorial Hospital in New Castle. He was born December 6, 1928 in New Castle, a son of the late Joseph and Maria (Brizzi) Camera. He was married to Mary (Tuscano) Camera for 60 years, she survives in New Castle. Mr. Camera worked for Lockley Machine, Youngstown Sheet and Tube and Pennsylvania Railroad, New York Central and then retired as a conductor and brakeman from Conrail. He was an Army veteran during World War II serving at White Sands, New Mexico with the 1st Rocket Battalion, which did research and development of the V2 Rocket in early space technology before NASA. He worked directly under Warren Von Brau on the program. He was a member of the Sons of Italy, American Legion and Kelly Club, which his father was a charter member of. He was also a member of the Castle Rod and Gun Club and enjoyed hunting and fishing with his sons.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by four sons, Joseph Camera and his wife Mary Ellen of New Castle, Frederico Camera, Jr. and his wife Sara of New Castle, Michael Camera and his wife Linda of Edinburg, and Christopher Camera of New Castle, one sister, Virginia Allen of New Castle, and six grandchildren, Michael, Macauley, Maria, Frederick, Elizabeth Jo, and Dominique Camera.
He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Joseph and Victor Camera and one sister, Rose Mary Camera.
Visitation will be held at the William F. & Roger M. DeCarbo Funeral Home, 926 Cunningham Avenue on Tuesday, September 1, 2015 from 6 PM to 8 PM.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, September 2, 2015 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Vitus Church. Father Frank Almade of St. Vitus Church will be officiating. A funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 9:30 AM. Burial will be in the St. Vitus Cemetery. The New Castle Area Honor Guard will perform Military Funeral Rites at the Cemetery.
