Carrie Jean Pagley, passed away peacefully in her home of 15 years at One Claridge Drive, Verona, NJ, on January 19, 2016, of natural causes. Born in 1921, in New Castle, Pennsylvania to the late Mary Cardella and Frank Macarella, Carrie resided there until she moved to New Jersey in 2001. On November 29, 1941, she married Michael Louis Pagley. They were married for 40 years until his death in 1981.

A graduate of New Castle High School, Carrie also studied writing at Westminster College in New Wilmington, Pa. Carrie authored short stories and poetry, and several were published in the Reader’s Digest series – Life in these United States. In 2005 she received a Certificate of Recognition from the Essex County Legacies Writing Contest for a short story entitled “The Stranger.”

Carrie was a certified Tutor for the National Affiliation for Literacy Advancement, and taught English reading and writing to adults at the New Castle public library.

A lover of the movies, Carrie aspired to be on the big screen and for more than 25 years documented the winners of the Academy Awards. She was also an avid tennis and golf fan and was often seen at the U.S. Open in Flushing Meadow.

Carrie was a long-standing Member of St. Josephs Church The Worker church, where she volunteered her time and talents until she moved to New Jersey. While in New Jersey she was a member of the Claridge House Social and book clubs.

She is survived by her daughter Marlene J. Waldock and her husband David of New Jersey, her son, Michael Alan Pagley of Trafford, PA, two granddaughters, Michelle R. Marrone, and Danielle Wike, and two great grandchildren, Orlando and Amora Wike, all from Pittsburgh, PA, and many nieces and nephews.

Carrie was also preceded in death by four sisters, Elizabeth Arket, Jeanine DeFalco, Louise Colello, and Thelma Pizzatola, and one brother, Victor Macarella.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, January 26, 2016 from 10 am to 11:30 AM at the William F. & Roger M. DeCarbo Funeral Home, 926 Cunningham Avenue.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, January 26, 2016 at 12:00 nonn at St. Joseph the Worker Church. Father Larry Adams of St. Joseph the Worker Church will officiate. A funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 11:30 AM. Carrie’s final resting place will be at St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
