Michael A. Rainey, 92, of West Wabash Avenue, died Tuesday, May 17, 2016 at Golden Hill Nursing Home in New Castle. He was born December 28, 1923 in New Castle, a son of the late John and Lucy (DiNuccio) Rainey. He was married to the late Jean A. (Tommelleo) Rainey who died September 27, 2012. Mr. Rainey was a brakeman on the B&O Railroad retiring after 35 years. He was an Army Air Corp. veteran of World War II serving in Europe. He was an Upper Turret Gunner on a B-24 Liberator flying in over 50 missions across Europe. He received the Air Medal with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters and the Distinguished Unit Badge. Mr. Rainey was active at the St. Margaret's Club and enjoyed gardening and was an avid sports fan.
He is survived by two children, Lucia Doneluck and husband Ray of New Castle, and John Rainey and wife Mary Margaret of New Castle, five grandchildren, Brett and Jason Doneluck and Albert, Domenique and Jennie Rainey, and one great grandson, Milo Ray Doneluck.
In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by three brothers, Albert, Alfred, and Louie Rainey, and four sisters, Lydia Fobes, Virginia Restivo, Katherine Landis, and Mary Gagliano.
Visitation will be held Thursday, May 19, 2016 from 9 AM to 11 AM at St. Vincent de Paul Church, 1 Lucymont Avenue, New Castle.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, May 19, 2016 at 11:00 AM at St. Vincent de Paul Church. Father Bill Siple of St. Vincent de Paul Church will officiate. Funeral arrangements are by the William F. & Roger M. DeCarbo Funeral Home, 926 Cunningham Avenue. Burial will be in the St. Lucy Cemetery.
