Mary Jo Gaspare

Mary Jo Gaspare, 64, of Mahoningtown, passed away peacefully the evening of Sunday, August 7, 2016 at UPMC Jameson Hospital. She was born on July 3, 1952 in New Castle, a daughter of the late Victor and Josephine (Tuminella) Gaspare. She was a 1970 graduate of New Castle High School and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in history from Slippery Rock University. Mary Jo was a devout Roman Catholice and a member of St. Vincent de Paul Church. She had a great devotion to the Blessed Mother and much of her time was spent in prayer. Mary Jo loved reading, debating politics, playing games on her iPad and watching TV. She had a knack for baking, especially traditional Italian family recipes. She loved music and was an avid Pittsburgh Pirates fan. But all of these pale in comparison to the love she had for her family.

She is survived by her sister, Vickie M. (Gaspare) Onufrak of New Castle, and three nephews, Matthew Onufrak and wife Emily, John Onufrak and wife Brittany and Joseph Onufrak. She is also survived by many nieces, cousins and loving friends. The joy of her life was spending time with her three great nephews, Johnny, Alex and Luke Onufrak.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, August 10, 2016 from 5 PM to 8 PM at the William F. & Roger M. DeCarbo Funeral Home, 926 Cunningham Avenue.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, August 11, 2016 at 10:00 AM at St. Vincent de Paul Church, the former St. Lucy Church in Mahoningtown. Father Daniele Vallecorsa will officiate. A funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 9:30 AM. Burial will be in St. Lucy Cemetery.
