Norman A. DeGidio, Sr., 84, of E. Edison Avenue, died Monday, September 21, 2009 at his home. He was born July 29, 1925 in New Castle, a son of the late Alexander and Domenica (Palumbo) DeGidio. He was married to Alda M. (Ticcone) DeGidio who died April 19, 2008. Mr. DeGidio was co-owner and operator of Hennon & DeGidio General Contractors for 30 years. He also worked at Rockwell International as a machine operator for 10 years. He was the Assistant Director of Public Works for the City of New Castle for 4 years and was Treasurer and a Charter Member of Roscoe Credit Union, now 1st Family Credit Union. Mr. DeGidio was a veteran of the US Marine Corps serving in World War II. He was the Sgt. of the Guard on the USS Yorktown and part of her original crew. He fought in all the battles the Yorktown engaged in including the Battle of the Midway. Mr. DeGidio will be most remembered as the Republican Party Chairman of Lawrence County over the past 20 plus years and for his involvement in local and state government.

He is survived by two sons, Alexander J. DeGidio of New Castle, and Norman A. DeGidio, Jr. of Pittsburgh, two sisters, Elizabeth Sylvester of New Castle, and Clara DeLuria of Alpharetta, GA, and grandchildren. He is also survived by a number of cousins in Italy.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Arthur DeGidio, and one sister Antoinette Denny.

Visitation will be held at the William F. & Roger M. DeCarbo Funeral Home, 926 Cunningham Avenue, on Thursday, September 24, 2009 from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm.

Blessing services will be held Friday, September 25, 2009 at 11:30 am at the William F. DeCarbo Memorial Chapel. Father John Petrarulo of St. Vitus Church will be officiating. The New Castle Area Honor Guard will perform Military Funeral Rites at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery.
