Emmett ‘Mike’ L. Burns, 77, of Ellwood Road, died Friday, October 16, 2009 at Avalon Nursing Center. He was born January 17, 1932 in Ellwood City, a son of the late Roy and Cecelia (Flinner) Burns. He married Dorothy P. (Richards) Burns on February 10, 1951, she survives in New Castle. Mr. Burns worked at Medusa Cement and Cemex as a mill rite and cement tester, retiring after 29 years. He was a member of the Cliffton Flats Alliance Church and was an Elder and taught Sunday School at the church for many years. He also was a layman preacher at Golden Hill Nursing Home for many years. Mr. Burns enjoyed hunting and riding motorcycles.
He is survived by one daughter, Deborah S. Houk and her husband Jack of New Castle, two sons, Emmett R. Burns and his wife Jan, and Robert J. Burns and his wife Ruth, both of New Castle, nine grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Harry Burns, one sister, Betty Shinsky, one granddaughter, Kenzie Houk and one great grandson, Baby Christopher.
Visitation will be held at the William F. & Roger M. DeCarbo Funeral Home, 926 Cunningham Avenue on Sunday, October 18, 2009 from 5 pm to 8 pm.
Funeral services will be held Monday, October 19, 2009 at 11:00 am at the William F. DeCarbo Memorial Chapel. Pastor Jarod Mills will be officiating. Burial will be in the Portersville Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Portersville.
