Louis R. Santangelo, Sr., 86, of Golden Hill Nursing Home, died Friday morning, July 7, 2006 at Golden Hill Nursing Home in New Castle, Pennsylvania. He was born June 19, 1920 in New Castle, Pennsylvania a son of Peter and Teresa (Tuscano) Santangelo. His parents precede him in death. He was married to Dorothy (Vital) Santangelo, who died on May 11, 2003. Mr. Santangelo was a custodial supervisor at Benjamin Franklin Junior High School in New Castle and also was a custodial worker for the Water District in Las Vegas, NV. He was an Army veteran of World War II serving in the Pacific Theatre as a Staff Sergeant with the 35th Infantry. He received a Bronze Service Star in the Philippine Liberation and three Bronze Service Stars for his Asiatic Pacific service in Guadalcanal, the Northern Solomon Islands and Luzon.
He is survived by 2 sons, Robert Colaluca of Las Vegas, NV and Louis R. Santangelo, Jr. of New Castle, PA, 1 daughter, Rosemary Bauder of Las Vegas, NV, 1 sister, Pauline DiThomas of Montebello, CA, 11 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by 3 brothers Michael, John and Benny Santangelo, and 3 sisters, Margaret Lamarco, Bridget Buddelzza, and Clara Valestare.
Visitation will be held at the William F. & Roger M. DeCarbo Funeral Home on Monday, July 10, 2006 from 7 pm to 9 PM.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, July 11, 2006 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Vitus Church. Father John Petrarulo of St. Vitus Church will be officiating. A funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 9:30 am. Burial will be in the St. Vitus Cemetery.
