James V. ‘Jimmy’ DeRosa, Sr., 86, of E. Washington Street, died Saturday, February 27, 2010 at the UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh. He was born August 7, 1923 in Bessemer, a son of the late Angelo and Antoinetta (Tesone) DeRosa. He married Nancie L. (Perrotta) DeRosa on June 12, 1948, she survives in New Castle. Mr. DeRosa was a stone mason retiring after over 40 years from Local #17. He also worked at Castle Brand, was a barber in Croton for many years, and was the owner and operator of Castle Lanes Bowling Alley on Croton Avenue for many years. He was a Marine veteran of World War II serving in the Pacific as a Master Sergeant with the 3rd Division. He also served in the Mediterranean and re-enlisted and served in the Korean War. Mr. DeRosa was a member of the Duca Degli Abruzzi Club, the VFW, and the Eagles Club. He enjoyed golfing, hunting, and fishing, he was an avid bowler who won many awards and bowled two 300 games. Mr. DeRosa was also an avid gardener and won many blue ribbons at the Lawrence County Fair for his produce. He enjoyed hunting with his brothers, sons, and nephews at the DeRosa family hunting camp and also loved spening time with all of his grandchildren and enjoyed attending all of their activities.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by, two sons, James V. ‘Justin’ DeRosa, Jr. of Burbank, CA, and Robert A. ‘Robby’ DeRosa of New Castle, one daughter, Sheridan L. ‘Sheri’ Blundo and her husband Benny of New Castle, two brothers, Harry L. ‘Uni’ DeRosa and David DeRosa, both of New Castle, three sisters, Mary Rozzi and Elsie Pallott, both of New Castle, and Rosemarie Coratto of Industry, PA, eight grandchildren, Jamie DeRosa, Michael C. DeRosa, Allison DeRosa, Anna Marie DeRosa, Benny Blundo, Carmen Blundo, James Blundo, and Antonio Blundo, and eight great grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Anthony, William, and Michael DeRosa, one sister, Connie Pauline, and one granddaughter, Alicia M. DeRosa.
Visitation will be held at the William F. & Roger M. DeCarbo Funeral Home, 926 Cunningham Avenue, on Tuesday, March 2, 2010 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm.
A prayer service will be held Wednesday, March 3, 2010 at 10:00 am at the William F. DeCarbo Memorial Chapel. Pastor Ron Eade of Church of Genesis will officiate. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, March 3, 2010 at 11:00 am at St. Joseph the Worker Church. Father James Downs of Christ the King Parish will be officiating. The New Castle Area honor guard will perform Military Funeral Rites at the funeral home. A funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 10:30 am. Burial will be in the St. Vitus Cemetery.
