James A. Cardella, 91, of W. Clayton Street, New Castle, died Monday, March 29, 2010 at his home in New Castle. He was born October 31, 1918 in New Castle, a son of the late James and Maria (D'Amere) Cardella. Mr. Cardella was a Chief Warrant Officer for the United States Army retiring after 30 years. He was a veteran of World War II serving in Germany and he was awarded many medals and honors for his service including the Army Commendation Medal w/ Oak Leaf Cluster. Mr. Cardella served in US Embassies around the world and enjoyed painting and drawing portraits in his spare time. He loved spending time with his family and was full of life right until the end.

He is survived by a number of nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, Felix, Carmen, Frank, and Peter Cardella, and three sisters, Jennie Gallena, Rose Exposito, and Florence Cubellis.

The family will receive friends Monday, April 5, 2010 from 10:30 am to 11:00 am at St. Vincent de Paul Church.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, April 5, 2010 at 11:00 am at St. Vincent de Paul Church. Father Steve Palsa of St. Vincent de Paul Parish will be officiating. Burial will be in St. Lucy Cemetery. The New Castle Area Honor Guard will perform Military Funeral Rites at the cemetery. Funeral arrangements are by the William F. & Roger M. DeCarbo Funeral Home.
