Rita M. Orlando

Rita M. Orlando, 74, of Sixth Street, died Sunday, April 4, 2010 at her home in New Castle. She was born March 12, 1936 in Hays, Kansas a daughter of the late John and Agatha (Graf) von Feldt. She married Joseph A. Orlando on August 2, 1956, he survives in New Castle. Mrs. Orlando worked at the soda fountain at Walgreens and then was the elevator operator at Brown Palace Hotel in Denver, CO. She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Church and a former member of the Christian Mothers. Mrs. Orlando was a devout donor to St. Jude's Hospital and to St. Jude, and also was devoted to prayer. She enjoyed cooking, and drawing and art, and also taking care of her family and friends. She will be sadly missed by her beloved dog Abbey.

She is survived by, three daughters Veronica L. Orlando of New Castle, Joanne M. Winter of West Pittsburg, PA, and Kathleen A. Orlando of New Castle, two sons, Joseph A. Orlando, Jr., and Robert J.C. Orlando, both of New Castle, three brothers, Elmer, Herbert, and Frances von Feldt, all of Denver, CO, five sisters, Josie Hepp, Agnes Goetz, Millie Gornack, Lee Harvey, and Norma Anderson, all of Denver, CO, five grandchildren, Anna and Brittany Orlando, and Jake, Adam, and Luke Winter, and a number of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Ned, Joseph, and Alfred von Feldt, and four sisters, Shirley Reynolds, Leona Adcock, Helen Hepp, and Lorraine Donofrio.

Visitation will be held at the William F. & Roger M. DeCarbo Funeral Home, 926 Cunningham Avenue, on Thursday, April 8, 2010 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, April 9, 2010 at 10:00 am at St. Vincent de Paul Church. Father Steve Palsa of St. Vincent de Paul Parish will be officiating. A funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 9:30 am. Burial will be in the St. Lucy Cemetery.
