Jack Wesley Mateer, 86, of Haines City, FL, formerly of New Castle, Clarion, and Kittanning, PA, passed away March 27, 2010 at the Good Shepherd Hospice House of Auburndale, FL.
He was born in Boggs Twp., Wayne County, PA, on August 25, 1923, the son of the late Sharon and Bessie Mateer. Mr. Mateer was a graduate of Kittanning High School Class of 1940, and a Marine veteran during World War II serving in the Pacific. Mr. Mateer retired from Ed Chaderton Trucking as a truck driver. He was Past Master of Clarion Mason Lodge #277, a member of the Coudersport, PA Consistory, Zem Zem Shrine of Erie, PA, Clarion County Trykes, and president of the Clarion County Landlord Association. He was also a member of the First Christian Church of New Castle and the First United Methodist church of Clarion. He was also a member of the JB Country Western Band, and the Tri County Music Association of Marionville. Mr. Mateer enjoyed camping and going to Blue Grass Festivals. In Florida he participated in the Country Jammers.
He is survived by two daughters, Judy Zingaro and her husband Ron of Canfield, OH, and Joan Gerber and her husband Montie of Forrest, IL, six grandchildren, Ronda, Ronald M., Lori, Ronald Z., James, and Michele, eight great grandchildren, one brother, William Mateer and his wife Jackie of Kittanning, and nieces and nephews. He is also survived by Helen Fetzer, his companion of 34 years and her family, William Fetzer and his wife Elise of Clarion, three granddaughters, Jocelyn, Jamie, and Jill, and two great grandchildren.
He was proceeded in death by one daugher, Jackie Merando, and one grandson, Joseph Zingaro.
