Lois Cupido Scopio, 89, of Avalon Nursing Center, formerly of Clarence Avenue, New Castle, died Saturday, May 1, 2010 at Avalon Nursing Center. She was born July 17, 1920 in New Castle, a daughter of the late Angelo and Pauline (Fergione) Orlando. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Paul Scopio. Mrs. Scopio was the owner and operator of the Lois Shop in downtown New Castle for over 30 years. She was a member of the Downtown Merchant Association, and was an avid bowler, she enjoyed traveling and playing cards with her sisters. Lois will be remembered as a very caring and fun loving person. She also had a passion for fashion and music, especially Jazz and Frank Sinatra.
She is survived by three grandchildren, Michael Haben and wife Jennie, Cassandra Houston and husband David, and Nicholas Mastropietro, seven great grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Kathleen Mastropietro, six brothers, Renaldo ‘Ozzie’, Michael, Emilio ‘Fatty’, Alex, Albert ‘Babo’, and Albert Orlando, nine sisters, Florence Conti, Helen Frank, Sue White, Elizabeth Cialella, Rose Orlando, Margaret Tuscano, Phyllis Iervoline, Elizabeth Orlando, and Louise Orlando, and one granddaughter, Leanna Essinger.
Visitation will be held at the William F. & Roger M. DeCarbo Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 4, 2010 from 5 pm to 8 pm.
Blessing services will be held Wednesday, May 5, 2010 at 11:00 am at the William F. DeCarbo Memorial Chapel. Father James Downs of Christ the King Parish will be officiating. Burial will be in the St. Vitus Cemetery.
