John A. Allsopp, 84, of Riverside Apartments, formerly of Cunningham Avenue, died Tuesday, May 25, 2010 at his home in New Castle. He was born May 17, 1926 in New Castle, a son of the late William and Florence (McMillian) Allsopp. He was married to Virginia C. (White) Dougherty Allsopp who died on August 15, 2009. Mr. Allsopp retired after many years from Flowline Corporation. He was a Navy veteran of World War II serving on the USS Pennsylvania. He served in Pearl Harbor and for his service received the Asiatic Pacific Theater Medal with 6 stars and the Philippine Liberation Medal with 2 stars. Mr. Allsopp was a member of the VFW Post 315 and was past president.
He is survived by one step-daughter, Susan Dougherty Carlson and her husband Dr. Eric Carlson of Knoxville, TN, one step-son, David Dougherty and his wife Janice of Cape Coral, FL, two sisters, Frances Thomas of Louisville, KY, and Cynthia Burleson of Butler, IL, five grandchildren, Michelle Bayer and her husband Dave, John Dougherty and his wife Channon, Randi Dougherty, and Katie and Kristen Carlson, and two great grandchildren, Alec and Lauren Bayer.
He was preceded in death by one brother, William S. Allsopp, and three sisters, Elizabeth Laurel, Rilla Mae O'Laughlin, and Florence Smith.
Funeral arrangements are by the William F. & Roger M. DeCarbo Funeral Home. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery. No services are scheduled at this time.
