Vernon E. Churchfield

Vernon E. Churchfield, 94, of Golden Hill Nursing Home, formerly of Rhodes Estates, died Sunday, September 19, 2010 at Golden Hill Nursing Home. He was born January 31, 1916 in New Castle, a son of the late George and Julia (Leeper) Churchfield. He was married to Margaret A. (Brandon) Churchfield who died March 12, 1977. Mr. Churchfield was a crane operator for Matthews Conveyors retiring after 40 years. He was a member of the Castlewood Christian and Missionary Alliance Church and was a Sunday School Teacher at the Church. Mr. Churchfield was an Army veteran of World War II serving in Italy. He also enjoyed sing and CB radios.

He is survived by one daughter, Charlene M. List and her husband Jim of Edinburg, one son, Donald E. Churchfield and his wife Carol of Sierra Vista, AZ, one son-in-law, Ronald Shaffer, seven grandchildren, and eleven great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Betty A. Shaffer, one brother, Claire Churchfield, and one sister Velma Tindall.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 23, 2010 at 6:00 P.M. at the William F. DeCarbo Memorial Chapel. Rev. Robert Feil will be officiating. Burial will be in Harmony Baptist Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are by the William F. & Roger M. DeCarbo Funeral Home, 926 Cunningham Avenue.
